Escallions will grow in many climatic conditions. Seeds sown directly in the field provide the least amount of disturbance to the growing cycle. When grown by direct seeding, they are more resistant to disease. However direct-seeded escallions take longer to reach maturity. Thin out directly-sown plants to recommended spacing. Where they are to be transplanted into the field a spacing of 2 to 3 inches between plants is recommended.
